7 Elements Volunteering
The mission of 7 Elements is to collaborate with global and local organizations to learn about and try to help improve access to the seven human securities: economic, food, health, environmental, personal, community and political. The group hopes to provide medical students with opportunities to engage in these global health related experiences and develop a passion for growing these interests throughout their journeys in medicine. Their global partner is 7 Elements Inc. (located in Dominican Republic, Haiti, Belize, and Peru) and current local partners include Fletcher Place Community Center, Harbor Light Center and Navari Student Outreach Clinic.
7 Elements’ global initiatives include an annual service learning trip to the Dominican Republic with 7 Elements Inc. to learn about implementing socially-responsible and culturally-appropriate service projects related to the human security elements. They also integrate global health related projects and research into the scholarly project portion of the Indiana University School of Medicine’s new Scholarly Concentration curriculum.
7 Elements local initiatives include collaborating with current local partners and participating in service learning trips to domestic communities (Flint, Michigan summer 2019). With their local partners, they are building initiatives surrounding the human security elements.
