AMPATH Breast & Cervical Cancer Control Program
The goal of the AMPATH Breast & Cervical Cancer Control Program is to improve access to screening and diagnostic services for breast and cervical cancer in Kenya by addressing the barriers of cancer care through a population health approach, working with communities and the Ministry of Health in Kenya with a potential for scaling these efforts to other parts of the region.
It is common to have patients in Kenya being diagnosed with breast and cervical cancers (prevalent cancers in Kenya) in advanced stages due to lack of patient and provider awareness, misdiagnosis, patient care costs and stigma.
The program aims to provide accessibility to services through the continuum of cancer care including; cancer prevention, screening, early diagnostics, optimal treatment, palliative and survivorship care. These will be achieved through: education and training of health workers to the lowest level at dispensaries; provision of optimal clinical care in collaboration with the county governments and ministry of health; proper data collection, analysis and dissemination; community engagement and pilot studies to inform subsequent care and policies.
