ENLACE Spanish Preparation for Global Health Elective
ENLACE's Spanish Preparation for Global Health elective is a transformative language immersion program designed to better prepare aspiring global health practitioners with the linguistic and cultural tools necessary to excel in cross-cultural healthcare settings. Through intensive, real-time, online Spanish instruction, students improve Spanish skills and expand medical Spanish vocabulary while developing a deeper understanding of Latin American cultures. This unique program prioritizes experiential and authentic cross-cultural communication, fostering a strong foundation for effective global health work in Spanish speaking communities and counties.
With a focus on personalized instruction and immersive engagement, the course is tailored to meet the individual needs of each student, regardless of their prior Spanish experience. Students participate in daily, two-hour online sessions with native Spanish-speaking instructors, engaging in authentic conversations and real-world scenarios. Beyond language acquisition, the curriculum incorporates essential global health skills, including medical Spanish terminology, cultural norms and working through various medical scenarios in Spanish.
By enrolling in this program, students not only enhance their linguistic abilities but also develop the intercultural humility crucial for successful global health endeavors. Upon completion, they will be better prepared to communicate with patients, healthcare providers, and community members in diverse cultural contexts, ultimately improving their ability to deliver high-quality, culturally appropriate care.
