Kisesa Health Centre is located in the North-Western part of Tanzania in Magu District, Mwanza Region. Over time, Mwanza Medical Research Centre through Kisesa CTC has become an integral and active member of EA-IeDEA since joining in September, 2012. By being a member of EA-IeDEA, Kisesa has benefited significantly in different ways: research capacity-building initiatives, the opportunity to attract research funds through joint-proposal development, recruitment and remuneration of new clinical and research staff. The site maintains electronic health records for HIV patients in a MOH-supported ACCESS Database. By July 2023 there were approximately 6,968 patients enrolled in care (2,459 males and 4,509 females. Kisesa site contributes clinical data to the IeDEA cohort of HIV patients on an annual basis.
Kisesa is also one of IeDEA's Sentinal Research Network (SRN) sites. SRN captures and analyzes standardized data among People Living with HIV (PLHIV) in Low and Middle-Income Countries (LMIC's). Through this network, we implement studies on cardiovascular risk factors, mental health, alcohol, and other substance use disorders as well as liver disease prevalence and associated factors among PLHIV accessing care in LMICs.
