The Abigail Brinkman Scholarship provides funds to support a fourth-year student traveling to a healthcare center in Belize to do an international clinical medical elective. Funds can be used to defray travel expenses, lodging and program costs while on site.
The Scholarship was established in 2006 to honor Abigail Brinkman, a fourth-year Indiana University medical student who died in a tragic accident at sea while completing a medical elective in Belize. Abby was rotating at Hillside Health Care International.
Students interested in this elective will enroll in the Healthcare in Developing Countries elective. Students interested in applying should submit no more than 1-page on their purpose and goals for engaging in an international educational experience. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis but must be submitted no later than 6 months prior to the start of the elective. To submit applications and for questions, please contact Jenny Baenziger, MD.
